Fairfield University hints at Apple in its bookstore

Fairfield University's president has announced that his school's bookstore will be moving off campus, and that "an industry leading computer retailer" will have a presence in the new digs. The store will occupy a former Borders' location on Post Road which covers about 23,500 square-feet on two levels plus a basement.

While Fairfield presiden Rev. Jeffrey von Arx didn't mention Apple by name, other American schools have made similar moves. The University of Delaware recently announced its plans to host an Apple storefront, while plans from Fairfield's Connecticut neighbor Yale show a similar arrangement.

Good luck to Fairfield and here's hoping their plans pan out. If you're a student who spies a little bit 'o Apple around the store, please let us know.

Bring me vicious mustards to pierce the tongue like Cardigan's lancers

Android App of the Week Dinner Spinner is a classic example of the slick and inventive apps that have made the iOS App Store what it is today. It?s also a good example of the way those same apps are now migrating to Android.?

iRiver Story HD becomes first Google eBooks-integrated e-reader, won't be the last

We aren't exactly lacking for digital bookstores, but Google's eBooks offering is indeed one of the slickest around. And evidently, it's not in nearly as many places as the marketers in Mountain View would like. The Goog just announced that iRiver's Story HD would soon become the first Google eBooks-integrated e-reader, with the new model going on sale July 17th at Target. It'll still sell for $139.99, and none of the actual hardware specifications will change from the existing model. Of course, the eBooks platform has been open to all publishers, retailers and manufacturers from the start; it's just that iRiver has become the first manufacturer to heed the call. Naturally, Google's teasing us by openly stating that more of these are on the way, and if you just so happen to be an e-reader maker... well, it'd certainly love to have a chat.

New Firefox Nightly and Aurora logos unearthed, and how to enable channel switching

Firefox Nightly and Aurora logos
Later today, Firefox will undergo its biggest developmental upheaval ever. Mozilla-central, the source of nightly builds, will be renumbered to version 5 -- and at long last, after years of wallowing around version 1, Mozilla's rendering and layout engine, Gecko, will also have its version number updated to match Firefox.

Shortly thereafter, Firefox's new channel system will be implemented. Firefox 5a2 will be introduced as the first Aurora build, and we should also see a Firefox 6 Nightly build. While we we're not sure where they came from, one Sören Hentzschel seems to have unearthed the new Nightly and Aurora logos (see above), along with new About Firefox dialogs (after the break).

In other news, if you want to take a sneak peek at the new 'channel changing' technology that will be introduced in upcoming Firefox builds, head to about:config and create a new string called app.update.desiredChannel -- the value doesn't matter. Then open Help > About Firefox and you'll be able to switch channel, but it doesn't do anything just yet (image after the break). Here's hoping that Firefox channel switching is smoother than Chrome.

Comcast Xfinity TV app updated for Honeycomb Android tablets, Gingerbread phones and on iOS

Comcast's Xfinity TV app made its tablet debut on the iPad last year and now it's finally ready for Android tablets too. The most recent update on the Android market adds a Honeycomb version with remote control and video on-demand browsing seen above (only officially certified for the Xoom, but it should work on others as well) -- but not Play Now streaming, yet -- and also should fix the app on phones running Gingerbread. iOS users haven't been completely left out, as a minor bump has been issued that should fix a few technical issues on those platforms too. The free apps are available at the source links below, choose your preferred flavor and download away.
